Start those Christmas quilting projects when it is too hot to be outdoors.
The worse the weather, the better it is for quilting and sewing. The hot, sultry days of summer are perfect for Christmas craft projects that can be used as holiday decorations and gifts. For Christmas quilt patterns, there’s no shortage of sources. Here are a number of books that will help. C & T Publishing just released “A Cozy Quilted Christmas” by Kim Schaefer. This will become one of the most used quilt books in your collection. It contains 17 appealing projects and 90 designs. Among those are holiday table runners and toppers, festive tea towels, mini tree skirts, numerous hangings, and lap quilts. Quick and easy to make, these holiday projects are suitable for beginners. They’re made with simple pieced and appliqué techniques. This title has complete, color-illustrated, step-by-step directions and layouts for each project. For beginners, there are general instructions for all the procedures and methods used in quilting. The full-size patterns are on handy, tear-out sheets. “Block Magic, Too!” by Nancy Johnson-Srebro from C & T presents a number of blocks and designs that are suitable for the holidays. Fast and easy to make, these are especially good for beginners. For this book, the author selected easy to master blocks of different sizes, made from simple squares and rectangles. The charts offer several color versions and sizes for each block—from six inches to twelve inches. There are easy to follow, step-by-step, color-illustrated instructions with a color chart listing the fabrics and amounts needed for each block. This volume features ten quilts and over 50 blocks. Among these is a Christmas quilt that can be used for a wall hanging or lap quilt along with a number of holiday blocks. This volume is part of the author’s Block Magic series from C & T. “Fast Fun and Easy Christmas Decorations” by Linda Johansen was released by C & T in 2006. This features exquisite, holiday fabric projects, some of which require no sewing. Among these delightful projects are a gingerbread house, a holly wreath, a sleigh, gift boxes, a three-dimensional Advent calendar, and a gorgeous set of three-dimensional Christmas ornaments. Most can be made from scraps you already have. The author gives complete, step-by-step instructions from start to finish for these timeless classics. Embellished with beads, sequins, buttons, and other trim, they will add sparkle to the holidays. Some of these projects are even suitable for children. `
