Floral quilt patterns make perfect summer projects.
Each season brings its very own motifs for quilting and sewing projects. Flowers are a favorite subject among quilters, particularly during the summer months. When it comes to floral quilt patterns, Mt. Redoubt Designs has some delightful ones. Their patterns combine easy piecing and appliqué techniques that are suitable for beginners and advanced quilters alike.
Mt. Redoubt specializes in exquisite, dimensional flower designs by renowned artist and quilt designer Letitia Hutchings. Included with each pattern is a Swarovski crystal kit for embellishing the completed project.
All of the Mt. Redoubt patterns comes with its own color chart that shows how much of each fabric will be needed along with a list of the other supplies you will need. There are full size pattern pieces, complete, illustrated step-by-step instructions, and layouts with charts and grids showing each step of the appliqué and piecing process.
Mt. Redoubt’s floral quilt patterns are especially suitable for summer projects. The “Iris” quilt pattern is 14 inches by 45 inches, useful for either a wall hanging or table runner. “Iris” captures the ephemeral beauty of the flowers at their peak of perfection. This depicts irises in a range of blues, purples, and lilacs. For additional interest, the designer added some white blossoms along with some butterflies for accent. The background is largely cream with slight tinges of purple here and there. Around the edges are gorgeous purple prints.
As with “Iris,” Mt. Redoubt’s “Aria” pattern can be used as a wall hanging or table decoration. It measures 24 inches by 30 inches. This design features eye catching, blue and purple flowering plants in a flower pot. Around the borders are some white flowers for contrast. While the background is light yellow, this is paired in one corner with light lime green squares to create a checkerboard effect. The borders use a variety of blue-green and purple prints. The pattern’s name refers to the bird songs one hears in the spring. In this design, the birds happen to be chickadees, which perch on tree limbs in three corners.
Also from Mt. Redoubt Designs comes “Asian Breeze.” This updated version of the classic fan design is available in three different color schemes. One combines exquisite pinks and purples, while another uses various blue and brown prints. The third has a range of creams and browns with some green for emphasis. In all versions, the fans are nestled in a black background. Completing the scene are various kinds of blossoms and foliage for summer interest.
