Mini quilts are timesaving projects. These are a great way to learn new quilting techniques. Here are reviews of some books featuring delightful mini quilt projects.

Greeting Card Quilts

Quilt-O-Grams-8 Creative Keepsakes to Stitch and Send by Cheryl Malkowski was released by C & T Publishing. Perfect for novice quilters, these delightful fused quilt projects can be used for announcements, invitations, and greeting cards. They’re small enough to fit into envelopes for mailing.

The introduction covers all of the basic techniques from beginning to end. For each of the projects, this has a list of materials and supplies, full size templates, and easy to follow, step by step, color illustrated instructions. Among the projects are greeting cards as well as Christmas cards. This also explains how to embellish cards with crystals, buttons, couching, and found objects.

Postcard Quilts

Quilt Designs for Postcards from the American School of Needlework features 24 appealing, appliquéd designs to send or display in the home. These include Christmas and other holiday cards, baby announcements, and Valentine’s cards as well as greeting cards for various occasions. Some of the designs have seasonal themes.

The introduction gives general instructions for making quilted fabric postcards. Use the small photos in the table of contents to choose an appropriate card design for your needs. For each fused design, this has a list of suggested fabrics, templates, and simple, color illustrated, step by step instructions from start to finish.

Mini Wall Hangings

Quilts in My Cubicle by Barbara Holtzman features an enchanting, pieced, seasonal wall quilt for each month. Published by the American Quilter’s Society, this gives general instructions and color illustrated, step by step directions for all of the techniques, including various piecing methods. The fun-filled designs feature appealing seasonal motifs, such as snow for January and butterflies for May.

For each design, this has a list of fabrics and supplies with simple, easy to follow directions from beginning to end. All of these projects are suitable for beginners. There are also clever ideas for hanging quilts. Fat quarters can be used as backing for these mini quilts, which are around a foot or so square.

Miscellaneous Mini Projects

Embellishing with Anything by Gladys Love was released by C & T Publishing. This title features 17 practical and decorative items. They include journal covers, luggage tags, postcards, artist trading cards (ATCs), ATC holders, and lovely mini wall quilts. For each project, this has a list of supplies and fabrics, templates, and color illustrated, step by step instructions. In the introduction, the author provides instructions for each technique, including applique, patchwork, beading, couching, and fabric bead making. The author also explains how to enhance your mini quilts with recycled materials and found objects, such as wine labels, candy wrappers, thrift shop jewelry,and much more.
